These have been sitting on my painting desk half-finished for ages – but now they’re all done and ready for the battlefield. Here’s the completed Hunter support:

The Munitions Factory now has paint on its walls as well, but it will be a little while before it’s ready for prime time. I’ve just picked up a bunch more styrene rods and shapes for more buildings. Watch this space.

While my painting has been delayed a bit, I’ve been spending lots of time this past week working with SketchUp. Just a couple days ago I received a package from Shapeways with some 3D-printed Epic parts I had ordered as an experiment, and I’m quite impressed with the outcome. Right now, 3D design seems like a tremendous opportunity for the miniatures hobby, and one I’m now working to take advantage of. While expensive for large items, using a company like Shapeways to prototype Epic-scale or similar models and use just one printed example to cast a mold for reproduction looks like a fantastic way to produce new miniatures. This project will be a bit more long-term but one that I’m really excited about. I’ll be posting more information and pictures as things develop.

Lastly, I’m very glad to say that both my home and the store have been unaffected by the terrible flooding that has hammered Calgary and the rest of southern Alberta in the last couple days. Sentry Box is now open again (we were closed Friday as we couldn’t reach the store) so if you’re looking for a break from the bad news come on down and hang out with us. My deepest condolences to those affected – I’m not sure where some of our regular gamers live in town so I hope you’re all OK. If any of you guys get a chance, please drop me an email and let me know.

Stay safe and thanks for reading.

Having freed my remaining photos from the treacherous depths of my SD card, here’s the remaining completed detachments from my growing Epic: Armageddon collection. I had originally intended to put together only a small collection of about 3000 points, but after making an excellent deal for more figures the army has ballooned to over twice my original intent. Which I’m fine with – I’m having lots of fun painting in this scale, and I’m looking forward to building small-scale terrain which should transport and store easily. Even if I never actually use all of this in-game…

First up are some of the finished detachments for my latest project: an Epic-scale Crimson Fists army. I’ll be doing a more detailed feature about putting the project together and how I’ve gone about painting them in a later update. Also coming soon will be another gallery of the remaining units already finished, and continuing updates as I complete more of the project. Stay tuned!
